The Roblox platform has introduced new account types for children: Roblox Kids and Roblox Select. According to Roblox, these accounts have been available worldwide since 16 June 2026 (they were first launched in a few countries – VideoGamer). Roblox Kids is for children aged 5–8 and Roblox Select for children aged 9–15; a standard Roblox account is for users aged 16 and over. Default settings may vary by country.
On Roblox Kids accounts chat is off by default – Roblox says chat remains off for users under 9. A parent who has linked their account to the child's account can allow in-experience chat, but text only and only with users in the same or a similar age group or with "Trusted Friends" – people the child knows; text filters are always on. On Roblox Select accounts chat access increases gradually, and parents can change it.
Until the child turns 13, parents who link their account with their child's can review the friends list, block or report people they do not want their child to contact, approve requests to add "Trusted Friends" and set screen-time and spending limits, and until 16 they can change chat settings and allow or block specific experiences. When a teen is 16–18, parents have less direct control but can receive spending notifications and information about screen time. We cover contact with strangers in games in our article on online games and strangers (in Polish).

Age verification is a separate matter. According to Roblox, standard accounts (16+) require age verification based on an ID document or facial age estimation, and age verification is also needed to use chat. Facial age estimation works from an image of your child's face – before choosing it, check Roblox's privacy policy to see what happens to that data.
And MichalKids? To be honest: MichalKids does not interfere with Roblox, cannot see who your child talks to in a game, does not read chat and does not block purchases. It shows the parent things like the child's location and gives the child an SOS button and the "All OK?" check-in – help with everyday safety away from the screen, not protection inside the game. Roblox settings need to be configured in Roblox itself.

Remember that though technological solutions help in managing our children's online safety, the most important aspect is communication and building mutual trust. By establishing common rules for using games and apps, we can create an environment where children develop safely and responsibly.
